Native American Fashion Show

On my resume of presentations was the  “History of Native American Fashion”, a fashion show of handwoven garments, it was a presentation which I was asked to do many times.  Over the years I had woven my interpretation of regalia for many tribes, I created a Powerpoint presentation to accompany my work.  I began contextualizing the history of Native American clothing with John White’s Painting of native peoples (1585) on the southeastern coast, today North Carolina.

More about the Series

I featured southeastern garments of the Five Civilized Tribes-Chickasaw, Choctaw, Cherokee, Creek and Seminole.  Then moving up the coast to the northeast, garments of the Iroquois Nations and MicMac, across America to the Northwest coast and the Inuit, Nez Pierce and down to California tribes with their Shells, pine nut, feathers, otter tails, and buckskin regalia.  The presentation moved on to the southwest to Hopi and Navajo garments and finally to the Plains tribes of Sioux, Blackfoot, Cheyenne, Kiowa, beautiful buckskin, beaded garments.  The photo presentation featured the actual garments of the tribes and then my handwoven interpretations would walk the runway.
